Beauty is in the Eye of the Beholder
Inner beauty is sometimes hidden deep within oneself to the point that you may think that there is no beauty there. The layers of self-doubt and low self-esteem can cloud your vision to where you no longer are able to see yourself objectively.
Think about the bulb that was lovingly planted in the ground in the Fall with the expectation that it would produce beautiful flowers in the Spring. The bulb lay dormant throughout the long, cold, dark Winter and the warmth of the sunshine and nourishment of the rain and soil create the right conditions to produce those beautiful blooms come Spring.
But, what if something happens to disrupt the natural process that works so well? It could be anything. Maybe it wasn’t cold enough, or maybe too cold. Maybe there wasn’t enough rain, or too much rain. Maybe someone contaminated the soil surrounding the bulb. Maybe the bulb was damaged by the actions of others. For whatever reason, Springtime comes and goes and there are no flowers produced to show the world the beauty of the bulb.
My question is this. Does that mean there is no potential for beautiful flowers? Or does it merely mean that conditions were not allowing their beauty to develop?
It’s that way with people too. All of us began with the potential of beautiful flowers inside us. It was assumed and expected that we would grow and bloom. Events in our life happen. Some are in our control and some are not. Sometimes our lives have acted to encourage rapid growth; sometimes steady growth; and sometimes to hinder our growth.
Sometimes we need a little magic in our lives. It’s amazing how magic can happen in an instant and completely change a life forever. The magic can be as simple as a look, a touch, a smile. It can be an article you read that suddenly makes sense. Or an old friend or complete stranger who says something that clicks with you.
The conditions become optimum for personal growth. And, as we look deep within ourselves with an objective eye, beauty is truly in the eye of the beholder. When we start to see ourselves as beautiful, our beauty cannot be hidden anymore. People will notice the light or glow from within. And what was once only the potential of beautiful flowers will become reality.
